Collaborative Work

Ethnographic Film + Photos

Delainey Bowers, Joel Chapman, and I spent three months in the spring of 2018 conducting fieldwork with the members of Kentucky Elite Pro Wrestling, an independent promotion based in Frankfort, Kentucky. This short ethnographic film is the result. Click through to view our film on YouTube.

To the left is a gallery of photos I took when we attended our first Kentucky Elite Pro Wrestling event at the American Legion in Frankfort. We drove to central Kentucky every other Friday to film interviews and events, take field notes, and get to know the people we were documenting. The wrestlers featured in these photos are Junior Russell, Jake Braddock, and Matt Branham.

National Register Nomination

In the fall of 2018, Delainey Bowers, Eleanor Miller, and I prepared a mock National Register nomination for Boyce General Store. This community staple makes use of the original 19th-century structure while also featuring modern additions. Today, Boyce is a restaurant and bakery known for southern cooking.

Stickwork Project

Stickwork Website Homepage

As part of a Vernacular Architecture class in the fall of 2018, I assisted in the photographic documentation of the construction of "Highbrow", an installment on the front lawn of the Kentucky Museum at WKU. I also conducted an interview with artist Patrick Dougherty. (Photo by Joel Chapman)

This documentation was published online (homepage pictured left). I worked with Delainey Bowers and Eleanor Miller on the text and webpage design for the "Artist" tab, and also participated in the construction of the Stickwork installment itself. View the full website here.

Teaching Experience

In the fall of 2018, I led Dr. Kate Horigan's undergraduate "Folklore in the Media" class as we discussed a reading on fan writing and the concept of "poaching". The teaching evaluation that Dr. Horigan prepared after observing this lesson has been made downloadable.

Field Notes

Field Notes

As part of the 2017 project I worked on with Laura Beth Fox-Ezell, I adapted a few pages of jottings into these field notes to contextualize what I heard from Laura Beth, as well as to identify themes in our conversation.

Graphic Design

Below are a few samples of the graphic design work I produced while at WKU. Print and digital versions (including for social media) were made of each.

Renesito Avich Poster
Leona Waddell Bio Signage for Kentucky Crafted 2019
Woven Treasures at Kentucky Crafted 2019

The image to the upper right was one of seven signs I made for the Woven Treasures area at Kentucky Crafted 2019. Six of these signs were biographies displayed at the tables of each participant. The seventh sign was the introduction to the area, pictured directly above.
